A fringe of gold on a beggars mantle is how James II of Scotland ( 1437-1460 ) described the East Neuk of Fife in Scotland with its Burghs built around sheltered bays and surrounded by rich farmland.
Anstruther , or “Anster” as it is known to the locals, is the largest community in the East Neuk, can trace its ancestry back into the mists of time.
Today the principal economy of the East Neuk is Tourism and there is a lot to offer. The Scottish Fisheries Museum, in Anstruther. The Fife Coastal path, Millennium Cycle way, Fife Coastal Tourist route, All pass through the East Neuk.
During the summer there is the annual Lifeboat Gala, also the Yacht Muster which brings many yachts from the Tay and Forth to Anstruther
Just off the coast in the Forth is the world renowned bird sanctuary and nature reserve The Isle of May. Why not visit it , boat trips leave Anstruther Harbour on a regular basis thought the summer months
Nearby, Crail , St Monans and Elie have civic weeks during the summer and Pittenweem hosts the increasingly popular Arts Festival
Anstruther and the East Neuk is a haven for quality restaurants , hotels and Chip shops and a host of small independently owned retailers who offer a wide range of products and gifts for locals and visitors alike.
Nearby there is St Andrews, the home of golf. Kellie Castle, a national trust property in Pittenweem .Scotland’s Secret Bunker, a secret command post in the event of Nuclear war, at Troy wood.
